Boy drove car in fatal crash
PA Auckland A car driven along Auckland’s Southern Motorway yesterday by a boy, aged 13, was involved in a head-on collision which killed a Papatoetoe woman,' Auckland police said. The dead woman was Patricia Madge Ward, aged 49, of Fairview Road.

A Christchurch City architect, Mr - Graeme Harper, with some of the photographs, coins, books, and documents found enclosed in a lead box behind the foundation stone at the Bridge of Remembrance on Tuesday. The box was found by stonemasons removing the stone as part of the restoration being done on the . bridge. Mr Harper said the most striking feature of the find was the excellent, almost mint, condition of the contents. The foundation stone was laid aL the base of the bridge’ on
April 25, 1923, by the Governor - General, Viscount Jellicoe. Many of the documents relate to that period in the city’s history. Included are copies of the “Weekly Press,” “The Star,” “The Lyttelton Times,” the fiftieth annual report of Canterbury College, the Christchurch New Zealand City Corps Officers records, the Christchurch City Council balance sheet and statements, and the 1923 electoral roll for Christchurch. A copy of the “History of the Canterbury Regiment 1914 - 1919," and a
booklet on electric light and power for Christchurch from Lake Coleridge are included. Eleven photographs of the foundation stonelaying ceremony, an order of ceremony programme, and a scroll outlining the background to the building of the bridge, were also in the box. A set of coins, including a 1894 gold sovereign, completed the collection. Slight damage to a newspaper and the box was caused by tools used by the workmen at the site who were unaware of the <.
