Man trapped in car A man was admitted to hospital last evening with serious head injuries after being trapped in his car. The ambulance and Fire Service were called to the accident in Lake Terrace Road about 10 p.m. The man’s car had crashed into a tree. Chairman’s allowance The allowance of the chairman of the Canterbury Area Health Board has increased from $27,500 to $36,500 a year. A report in “The Press” yesterday incorrectly reported the allowance had increased from $18,282 to $36,500. Tug gifted to society The historic Tug Lyttelton will be gifted to the Tug Lyttelton Preservation Society in a ceremony at the port bn Wednesday. The society has been leasing the tug from the Lyttelton Harbour Board since 1973, and has been responsible for the tug’s upkeep. The board’s secretary, Mr Tony Gemmill, said the decision to gift the vessel to the society was in recognition of the commendable way in which the society had maintained the tug. He said the vessel was now a widely accepted tourist feature in the region. The tug was built for the board in 1907 by Ferguson Brothers, in Port Glasgow, Scotland. Two women‘threatened’ Two young women were allegedly threatened by two men, one brandishing a knife, while sitting in a bus in Cathedral Square last evening. The men were scared off by the bus driver and ran across the Square. Soon after the police spoke to a man, aged about 24, in Warners New Hotel about the knife incident, which occurred about 6.45 p.m. He was arrested for threatening behaviour, possession of a knife, assaulting a policeman, and resisting arrest He will appear in the District Court today.
