Tennis seeds topple
NZPA-Reuter Stuggart, West Germany Five seeds, led by Czechoslovak Miloslav Mecir, fell in the second round of the $U5350,000 Stuttgart Grand Prix tennis tournament yesterday. The Yugoslav Davis Cup player, Goran Prpic, made short work of off-form fifth seed Mecir, beating the Olympic champion 6-0, 6-3. The top seed, Jakob Hlasek, of Switzerland, looked in danger of following Mecir out.He trailed little-known West German, Jens Woehrmann, 6-4, 4-6, 3-1 when darkness stopped play for the day. Marian Vajda, of Czechoslovakia, accounted for the ninth seed, John Fitzgerald, of Australia, 6-0, 6-4, while Frenchman Fabrice Santoro, ranked No. 477 in the world, beat the No. 10 seed, Andres Gomez, of Ecuador, 7-6, 2-6, 76.The sorry procession of departing seeds was completed by Austrian Alexander Antonitsch’s 6-4, 6-1 win over the No. 13 seed, Australian Darren Cahill and Canadian Martin Wostenholme’s 6-4, 7-5 beating of the No. 15 seed, Alexander Volkov, of the Soviet Union.
