Travis Swamp
Sir,—Travis Swamp has greater value as a wetlands reserve than as just another boggy, unstable subdivision with ongoing drainage problems. Why fight nature? Use the land’s potential as an exciting wetlands refuge within a city. Tied in with the Avon River reserves, the area would employ more people and stimulate more tourism, besides providing a home for our native plants and birds. Travis Swamp is a true bog, fed by the Waimakariri and wet at all seasons. Promote its uniqueness. — Yours, etc., H. R. CONSTABLE. July 24, 1989.
