Phones jammed

Sir, —Your front page on July 21 tells us that Telecom circuits were in trouble through pop fans jamming the lines. It was not the circuits that were in trouble; rather, subscribers trying to go about their normal business of communicating with each other. This is the second time recently that a radio station phone-in has disrupted our service. Maybe some of the S24OM reported profit could be diverted into developing a better “procedure” for handling such events. It is obvious that present controls are ineffective, if, as suggested, they are unable to cope with the combination of wet weather and children, both of which, I suspect, will continue to co-exist. — Yours, etc., L ‘
