Missions to get taste of $50,000 prize

By

JENNY LONG

A chocolate-loving Rangiora nun, who won $50,000 in a Cadbury competition, is giving all the money to missions in Third World countries. Sister Beatrice Frost, who lives at the Sisters of the Mission in Rangiora, said she wanted to do something useful with the money. The sisters have missionary congregations in many places, including Kenya, Peru, Senegal, Burma and the Philippines, and they would all get a share of the money, she said. Sister Beatrice, who has been a member of the Order for 55 years, said the contest’s crossword had been as easy as ABC. “When I filled it in I thought I might

have won one of the consolation prizes of a carton of chocolate,” she said. “I never dreamt I would win the money but these things come out of the blue sometimes.” Sister Beatrice sent in two entries to the contest. She had bought two cakes of chocolate and sent one to a niece for her birthday, and the second to a relative who had. been ill, “to cheer her up.” “I had to send them the chocolate with apologies for removing the wrappers, because the crossword was on them.” Sister Beatrice, who now spends some of her time visiting the elderly or the sick in Rangiora, will receive her prize money this morning at the Rangiora supermarket where she made the prizewinning purchase.
