Fifth horse trials for schools

The Trust Bank Canterbury secondary schools one day horse trial has a new venue for its fifth year of competition, This year it will be held at the Rangiora Pony Club’s grounds at the Northern A and P Show Grounds, Coldstream Road, in Rangiora on Sunday at 8.30 a.m. Entries from twentysix schools mean the organising committee has been unable to accept B teams entries this year. Teams of four riders from Kaikoura to Ellesmere will meet to compete in dressage, cross country and show jumping. The cross country will take place over the new course designed by Mrs D. Bain. The running order for Dressage is: Lincoln High, Christchurch Boys High, Christs’ College, St Andrew’s College, Papanui High, Villa Maria College, Ellesmere College, Rangi Ruru Girls, Avonside Girls High, Darfield High, Mairehau High, Rangiora High, Burnside High, Hawarden Area, St Margarets College, Kaiakoura High, Aranui High, Hornby High, Amuri Area, Marian/Stßedes, Oxford Area, Linwood High, Hilmorton High, Riccarton High, Christchurch Girls High and Cashmere High. • The Christchurch Pony Club will be holding a fence judges evening on August 1 at St Peter’s Church, Yaldhurst Road, at 7.30 p.m. Mr Allan Hampton and Mr Alister Gray will conduct the seminar. • Results from the Belfast Pony Club's Open Dressage and Jumping day held on their grounds. Topp 3. • The Springston Pony Club held its novice and intermediate one day horse trial at Coes Ford recently — the first time this event has been held away from their grounds for the last six years. The cross country course allowed for plenty of free running with the water com-

plex providing good spectator appeal and exhibitions of controlled jumping by the more experienced riders. Of 200 entries, 82 were clear with 28 eliminations and two retirements.
