Cannabis dealer jailed
When the police could not break a Hornby drug ring, an undercover man was put into the area and he quickly got results, Mr Justice Tipping was told in the High Court yesterday.
His Honour jailed Anthony JosephFlutey, aged 24, a yardman, for nine months on seven charges of selling cannabis plant, a class C drug, and two of supplying cannabis resin, a class B drug.
Ail the offences rose from transactions with the undercover agent who used the name “Martin Kane.” A number of persons have been sentenced because of the work of the agent. Mr David Saunders appeared for the Crown. Mr Justice Tipping said that about $12,000 had changed hands but he accepted that Flutey had played a subsidary role. The nature and number of charges made a jail term
inevitable and they showed that Flutey was wiling to traffic in drugs.
He would take into account that Flutey was not passing on the drug for a profit. It had been said that Flutey was naive. Flutey was candid with the police, pleaded guilty and others were involved. The courts had to do what they could to stamp out drug trafficking, Mr Justice Tipping said.
