Apology to Dallas Dempster

On July 5, “The Press” published a story headed “Casino Magnate in drug scandal” involving an inquiry into the positive swab returned on Mr Dempster’s horse, Amyquil, after winning at Belmont Park in Western Australia on June 10.

It has been pointed out to “The Press” that the article might have been read as suggesting that Mr Dempster was under investigation by the Western Australian Turf Club or that he was suspected of being-personally involved in relation to the positive

swab. No such suggestion was ever intended and it would have been totally unfounded.

If any reader took it that way, we wish to make it clear that Mr Dempster was not under investigation and was not suspected of being person-

ally involved. Mr Dempster’s only connection with the matter is that he is the owner of the horse.

We greatly regret and apologise for any distress or embarrassment that the article may have caused Mr Dempster.
