Mr Valentine is a director of Cluff Resources Pacific, and Cluff Oil New Zealand, Readers Digest (N.Z.), Synergy Applied Research, and the New Zealand Lamb Company (North America), of which he is also chairman. He was chairman of, and is now a consultant with, the chartered accounting firm, Coopers and Lybrand.
