W.O.F. stickers stolen More than 300 warrant of fitness stickers were stolen from a North New Brighton service station this week. The valid stickers, registered from BA 00885951 to BA 00886300 were taken from Palmers Road Services, Ltd, overnight on Wednesday. Senior-Sergeant Wayne Holmes of the New Brighton police said the offender had targeted the stickers. “There’s a lot of old vehicles which can’t get a warrant,” he said. “They can also be used on stolen vehicles.” The stickers are numbered “2.” Driver injured A Christchurch man suffered serious head and chest injuries when his station waggon and a farm utility collided near Klrwee yesterday. He was taken to Christchurch Hospital by a paramedic team after being transferred by an ambulance which attended the accident from Darfield. His vehicle was hit on the intersection of Halkett Road and Station Road. The man’s name was not available late last evening. His condition was described as serious but stable. The driver of the utility did not need hospital treatment. Soldier crushed A soldier died when the coal-laden truck in which he was a passenger rolled on State highway 30 just east of Benneydale on Thursday. Lance Corporal Roger Steven Page, aged 22, of Waiouru, was crushed under the Mercedes Benz Unlmog when it overturned on a sharp bend at the bottom of a steep hill at 1.20 p.m., said Constable Jason Perry of the Tokoroa police.—PA. The police have called off their search for a Waiheke Island man who has not been seen for a week. A spokesman said a search for Mr Maurice Daly, aged 69, would resume if new information on his whereabouts was received.—PA.
