Marathon hope well
PA Auckland The top Commonwealth Games marathon prospect, Marguerite Buist, has fully recovered from the shin soreness which threatened her Games preparation and is looking to run the fastest 10,000 m of her career at the World Cup meeting in Barcelona in September.Buist has twice run under 2hr 30min for the marathon this year, finishing second in the Nagoya international women’s event in 2:29.09, then second in the Boston marathon in 2:29.04. She is ranked second in the Commonwealth behind England’s Veronique Marot, the winner of the London marathon in April in 2:25.56, although Australian Lisa Martin clocked 2:25.53 in taking silver at the Seoul Olympics last year. Shortly after her brilliant sub-2:30 run at Boston, BUist broke down with severe shin soreness which, at first, was thought to be a stress fracture. Fortunately it turned out to be strained ligaments.
