Council has two options for base
The new Canterbury Regional Council may make its Christchurch headquarters the Waitaki International Building in Kilmore Street, or- the Ministry of Transport building in Montreal Street.
These are two options the Council’s transitional committee is considering.
The council’s chief executive, Mr . Malcolm Douglass, said yesterday that the first priority was a base for the small transition unit he leads. He is now based at the office of his former employer, the Canterbury United Council.
Mr Douglass said the transitional committee would decide on premises for the transition unit and would take an option on premises for the regional council. The final headquarters for the council would be decided by the council after November 1.
He hoped that the formal decision at least could be made at the July 11 meeting of the committee.
The United Council’s office and the North Canterbury Catchment Board’s office in Latimer Square were too small for the new council’s 200 staff, he said.
“The transitional committee has decided the regional council staff should all be housed under one roof,” Mr Douglass said. It was too soon yet to say what would be done with the Catchment Board building, but it could be sold. . .. ... i ...
