Man ‘back on track’
PA Auckland A man who had part of his nose bitten off by a female assailant says the attack has helped him pull his life back on the tracks. Glen Fallowfield, aged 20, a sickness beneficiary, of Mosgiel, said he had forgiven his attacker, Tamiana Maaria Te Mika Nathan, aged 25, who last week had her 18-month jail sentence quashed by the Court of Appeal. She was instead sentenced to two years supervision after Mr Justice Bisson said Mr Fallowfield, who had been drinking, dared the woman to bite his nose. Mr Fallowfield, who was staying with friends in Auckland, said he was a drug and alcohol addict with “a record as long as your arm” but had gone straight since the incident at a social gathering in February.
“I haven’t touched a drop since then. I have just got to keep off the drink. When I think about drinking, I just remember what happened last time,” he said. Mr Fallowfield said it did not bother him that Nathan’s jail term was quashed. “I have seen her since and we’ve talked about it.” Mr Fallowfield has had surgery three times on his nose and is scheduled for more surgery in seven months. “You can’t see it compared to what it was. She ripped just about half of the nose away — the nostril was all gone. Mr Fallowfield says he had no idea what had happened until he woke up in hospital later and nearly “freaked out” when he saw himself in the mirror.
