Fouroux switches players’ positions
PA Rotorua The French rugby coach, Jacques Fouroux, again made interesting positional choices yesterday when he named his team to play Bay of Plenty in Rotorua tomorrow.
Three players who took the field against New Zealand in the first test in Christchurch on June 17 have been included in the starting line-up, but ali occupy different spots. The forward, Dominique Erbani, a flanker at Lancaster Park, has been placed at lock while the wing, Patrice Lagisquet, and the centre, Franck Mesnel, have been selected at centre and first five-eighths respectively. In other switches JeanMarc Lescure, first fiveeighths so far on tour,
goes to fullback, while Olivier Roumat, flanker or lock in his appearances to date in New Zealand, is the No 8.
Erbani has played at lock before, appearing in that position in France’s 19-3 win over Scotland in the Five Nations championship, a result that clinched the title for the Tricolors. Most of Mesnel’s test experience has been at first five-eighths. As for Lagisquet and Lescure, Mr Fouroux said both had played for their clubs in the positions they would play tomorrow.
For the halfback berth both Henri Sanz and the tour captain, Pierre Berbizier, have been picked. Sanz is first choice, but he has a ‘ problem with an eye and a final decision on his availability is ex-
pected today. So far on tour Mr Fouroux has confounded critics with his experimentation, switching players around and refraining from putting out a shadow test side in any of the provincial matches. The team to take the field against Bay of Plenty is.— Jean-Marc Lescure; Stephane Weller, Patrice Lagisquet, Denis Charvet, Jean-Baptiste Lafond; Franck Mesnel, Henri Sanz (captain, or Pierre Berbizier); Olivier Roumat; Philippe Benetton, Dominique Erbani, Pascal Beraud, Jean-Fran-cois Tordo; Philippe Gallard, Herve Chabowski, Marc Pujolle. Reserves: Dominique Bouet, Pascal Ondarts, Jean Condom; Pierre Berbizier,: Marc Andrieu, Serge Blanco.
