Weather affects flower growers
Canterbury’s fluctuating temperatures are beginning to have an effect on the supply of carnations and spray carnations. A market auctioneer said that although most flowers in the South Island were now coming from glasshouses, very cold weather could still hinder their growth. There were good supplies yesterday of sol-
d’ors, earlicheers, stars and paperwhites. Quantities of daffodils are increasing and these are selling well. Good quality glasshouse chrysanthemums and spray chrysanthemums are popular, fetching up to $7.50 a bunch. There is still a wide variety of cottage flowers and foliage, including shrubs.
