New rules loom for petrol stations
The City Council’s town planning committee has recommended the adoption of new regulations governing the siting of service stations in residential areas. The committee recommended that six new criteria apply @ Applications will have to show there is a commercial need 9 The station should not “prejudice the residential zoning.” © The station’s location
should not "conflict with the policies and environmental objectives for commercial centres in the locality." ® The station should not “detrimentally affect the particular residential amenities of the neighbourhood, including schools.” © The site should be suitably located so that traffic and pedestrians were in no danger from traffic to the stations.
