Warmest May for 156 years
NZPA-PA London Londoners enjoyed their warmest May for 156 years but other parts of the country were not so lucky. Although the final two days were cool and fresh in London, the month was the warmest May since records began in 1833 with an average temperature of 16 degrees Celsius and a high of 29 degrees.
Central London had o.9mm of rain, beating the previous low of 3.5 mm, in May, 1896, and more than 300 hours of sunshine made it the brightest since 1909. Scotland and the northern isles had rain and even snow on the mountains
