Spurs chase Lineker
Tottenham is reported to be on the point of swooping the England striker, Gary Lineker, after Barcelona’s decision to slash his fee from more than £2 million ($5.45 million) to £1.3 million ($3.55 million). That falls in line with the budget of the Spurs manager. Terry Venables, who has been chasing the player he bought for the Spanish club ever since the Barcelona boss, Johan Cruyff, made it clear Lineker did not figure in his long term plans. The former Everton forward’s massive wage of around £5OOO ($N13,635) a week had been a stumbling block, but now Spurs look to be able to afford that.—NZPA-AFP.
