A.C.C. claims
Sir, —Recently a right-handed 60-year-old made a claim for accident corporation for an accident to the left wrist — $2500 for pain (clause 78) and $5OOO for “loss of enjoyment of life” (clause 79). Is this correct use of the nation’s money? Think of the thousands in. hospitals and elsewhere who suffer “pain and loss of enjoyment” without expecting, or being entitled, to any monetary recompense. I damaged a knee a year ago and have had to give up golf and tramping, thus suffering “loss of enjoyment of life and pain.” But I do not feel that the rest of the community owes me $7500. It is just bad luck, to be put up with. Surely it is time we put a stop to these absurdly expensive and inequitably apportioned decisions —
eventually paid for by the man in the street.—Yours, etc., P. HALL. May 26, 1989.
