Margot Kidder will return to N.Z. slopes

The Margot Kidder Celebrity Carnival on July 26 and 27 will be one of the highlights of Queenstown’s winter calender this year. The Canadian-born actress, best known as Lois Lane in the four “Superman” movies to date, will be bring six celebrities to Queenstown as part of the Kiwi Lager Winter Festival.

Kidder is the honorary team captain of the Canadian national ski team and proved a capable skier when her team won the International Celebrity Ski Classic at Mount Hutt last winter. The international celebrities will team up with local celebrities for a series of fun events, one lot at The Remarkables

ski areas and the other in Queenstown itself. Another highlight of the winter festival will be the free performance by the the world-famous Volvo Ski Show, a team of professional skiers. Their midday shows on July 29 and 30 will feature somersaults and acrobatics off a high ski jump at Coronet Peak.

Key dates on the Queenstown calendar include:

July 22 to 30 — Kiwi Lager Winter Festival, including DB Dog Derby, Coronet Peak (July 27). August 17 — Wigley Cup race series, Coronet Peak.

August 18 to 19 — Coronet Cup race series, Coronet Peak.

August 20 — Holiday Inn pro-am race, Coronet Peak.

August 22 to 28 — World Airline Ski Challenge, giant slalom, slalom, The Remarkables and Coronet Peak. September 2 and 3 — Masters race series, Coronet Peak. September 11 and 12 — New Zealand Police ski trials, The Remarkables. September 13 to 15 — Inter-Services ski championships, Coronet Peak. September 14 to 17 — Spring Carnival, The Remarkables, including raft race on snow, water-jump, extreme ski-ing competition.
