Music Fed. elects new president
Basil Stanton, of Wellington, has been elected the new president of the Music Federation of New Zealand. He has been closely involved with the orgaisation since he joined the committee of the Federation’s Wellington arm, the Wellington Chamber Music Society, in 1972. He became deputy chairman of the society in 1977 and chairman in 1979. Stanton was educated in Christchurch and is a graduate of the University of Canterbury. By profession he is a physical oceanographer and has worked for most of the time since his graduation for the New Zealand Oceanographic Institute. He is at present the leader of the physics group of the institute. An amateur performer on the classical guitar and lutee, his particular passions are for chamber music and opera.
