Labour and Tories even

NZPA-PA London The Labour Party is neck-and-neck with the Conservatives, according to an opinion poll in the “Guardian” newspaper yesterday. In a further boost for the Labour leader, Neil Kinnock, as the party prepares to announce its policy review documents, Labour’s new multilateral

nuclear defence policy looks like proving a vote winner for the party. The I.C.M. survey shows both the Democrats and Dr David Owen’s waning Social Democrat Party trailing hopelessly behind. The Conservatives and Labour are each rated at 43 per cent, equalling Labour’s best rating since the last General Election. Labour gained three

points over the last month, while the Conservatives slumped by one. The figures were: Conservative 43 per cent (44 last month); Labour 43 per cent (40); Democrats 8 per cent (7); and SDP 3 per cent (6). The poll was carried out among a sample of 1473 people between May 12 and 16.
