Moto-cross event
Sir, —I write to thank the moto-cross club which ran the Shell Challenge 100 off-road race at Dalethorpe on April 29. I especially express my gratitude to those members who rearranged my road fence. That they neglected to inform me of the new fence design heightened my surprise. I also thank those club members who left the many trinkets strewn over my property. I am sure the broken bottles, empty beer cans and discarded packets will come in handy and serve to remind me of the club’s reputation. — Yours, etc. G. FERGUSON. May 2, 1989.
[The organiser of the motocross, Mr James Petrie, replies: “I am sorry to hear about Mr Ferguson’s fence. As soon as I was informed about this (not until May 10), I rang him to see where and when this happened. We were not aware of the fence damage beforehand as it hap-
pened 4.5 km on a public road from the event.’ Between 11.30 a.m. and 3 p.m. as the race was being run I can personally assure Mr Ferguson that no club member or competitor was responsible for the damage. The rubbish has been cleared. Unfortunately some was missed as I could not pick it all up on the day. The club has replaced the fence post.”]
