Concord Oval out

NZPA-AAP Sydney The all-clear has finally been given to abandon Concord Oval as a rugby union test venue in favour of Sydney Football Stadium. Negotiations that dragged on for almost a month culminated on Monday in agreement between the Australian Rugby Union, the N.S.W.R.U. and Sydney Cricket Ground Trust. First tests to be played at the futuristic stadium — next to rugby’s traditional home, the Sydney Cricket Ground — will be Australia’s clashes with the British Lions on July 1 and 15. The A.R.U. executive director, Bob Fordham, said on Monday evening that the playing of all future tests at the stadium was implicit in the agreement.
