Cycle racing safety step

The Canterbury centre of the New Zealand Amateur Cycling Association made a positive major step forward in promoting cycle safety in Canterbury at its recent annual meeting. Mr G. T. Fowler, president of the Canterbury cycle racing association, said that the representatives of the clubs voted unanimously to make hard helmets of a safety approved standard compulsory for all Canterbury .racing cyclists taking part in all

events held in Canterbury. This is to become effective from January 1, 1990.

Officers elected were:— Patron, Mr L. L. A. Dawe; president, Mr G. T. Fowler; secretary, Mr F. Hall; treasurer, Mr R. Campbell; publicity officer, Mr P. Coding; senior selectors, Messrs B. E. Dawe, Fowler and R. Lucas; novice selectors, Messrs Dawe, D. Skilling and M. Wildermoth; coaching coordinator, Mr B. Hall.
