In other games North Canterbury upset Canterbury Court and Sockburn proved too strong for Russley. Batting first, Papanui reached the modest score of 60, only the openers, Tony Adams and Gary Thompson, getting among the runs. In reply Howzat started slowly, but a second-wicket partnership of 25 between Frank Noster and Tim Andrews kept it on target. The final pair of Peter Steele and Neil Houghie scored the winning runs in the last over.
