Sea competition winners
Below are the winners in our recent sea theme competition, with their entries. Congratulations to all three! First: Michelle Panther, aged 10, Middleton Grange School. THE SEA The sea can be like a happy cat Purring at your feet Then clawing at your arms and legs As you go in deep. As well as being like a cat The sea can be a lion, Roaring and throwing itself on rocks And sending the spray a-flying. The sea can be like a plate of glass, As still as a rock or a stone. Until the howling wind blows past And caps the waves with foam
Second: Tila Ross, Aged 11, Casebrook Intermediate School; I AM lam the white foam on the waves, Hurling my delicate body into caves. Racing to the land. Across the sand. The fish from the sea Jump through me. Slowly I die upon the earth. This is the end of days of mirth. Third: Jonathan Willis, aged 9, Greta Valley. Jonathan compiled some “Junior Press” style facts, jokes and book titles for his competition entry: SALT Salt is harvested from the sea. Low-lying land on the coast is flooded with sea water. The sun
evaporates the water. The salt from the sea is left behind and collected. Salt is harvested at Grassmere. just south of Blenheim. HOW THE OCEANS BEGAN Long ago, before there were any animals or people in the world, the earth was made of very hot rocks. As the rocks cooled down, they gave off steam. The steam turned into water, which collected in deep holes on the earth's surface. This water formed the seas and oceans. The high parts of the earth were left as dry land. BOOK TITLES “The Arctic Ocean" bv I C. Waters. “On the Beach" by C. Shaw. JOKE What do vampires cross the sea in? Blood vessels. Winners will be contacted shortly.
