Smoke inhaled
A man suffered from smoke inhalation during a fire at a Hereford Street house last evening. The man, an occupant of the house, was treated at the scene by ambulance officers. The fire, which broke out about 5.45 p.m., was confined to one room. Three kegs found The police have recovered three of eight kegs of beer stolen from the Old Orchard, Port Hills Road, last Friday evening. The three kegs — all empty — were found in an empty section in Antigua Street. Leather stolen Leather goods valued at $4OOO were stolen from an inner-city shop early yesterday. Burglars gained entry to Medici Leather and Fur Boutique by cutting a chain on a door at the back of the shop. They left with four jackets, a skirt, handbags, wallets and clutch purses. Replace and pay Consumers will now be charged for replacement telephone directories. The Telecom directories company managing director, Mr Kevin Riley, said the first copy of the white and yellow pages would continue to be free. The cost of the white pages is met by advertising in the yellow pages. — PA. Frigate protest stall Citizens Against Frigates will hold a peace stall in the Square from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today and tomorrow. Mr Steve Smith, the spokesman for the group, said people could sign a petition calling on the Government not to buy Anzac frigates.
