NZPA Washington The President of the United States, Mr George Bush, yesterday formally announced he intended a Washington State real estate businesswoman, Ms Della Newman, to be his Ambassador to New Zealand and Western Samoa. She will replace the Ambassador, Mr Paul Cleveland, who is a career diplomat, as op-

posed to a political appointee. Ms Newman is president and owner of Village Real Estate, Inc., in Seattle, Washington. She headed Mr Bush’s campaign in 1988 for Washington State and also took part in the Reagan-Bush campaigns of 1980 and 1984.

Her appointment is subject to confirmation by the Senate.
