The appointment which is to fill a vacancy created by the absence of a permanent staff member on leave without pay is not subject to extension or renewal. The post will be available for three years from approximately June 1,1989. Salary: $35,000-$42,500 per annum. The appointment, which will be made at a level that is suitable for a recent Ph.D. graduate, is open to applicants with research experience in any branch of Biochemistry or Molecular Biology and would provide experience in a University Department for a graduate who wishes to make a career in academic biochemistry. It Is a new position resulting from a reorganisation within the School of Medicine. General Surgery is taught extensively within the clinical part of the medical course. However, transplantation is not well developed within both the undergraduate programme and clinical service. The appointee is expected to demonstrate leadership in developing transplantation teaching and service. Candidates must hold a medical qualification registrable in New Zealand together with a recognised postgraduate qualification in Surgery and should preferably have had some experience in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate medical students. They must be able to demonstrate ability to undertake and sustain research activities in Transplantation. The duties will include the teaching of clinical Surgery at the undergraduate level and to assist in postgraduate teaching courses in the School of Medicine. The appointee will have a leadership role In both the teaching and clinical application of organ transplantation. A 5/10 clinical commitment to one or more Auckland Area Health Board Institutions is required. It is hoped that the successful candidate will take up the position as early as possible during 1989. Commencing salary will be established within the range $NZ64,000 to SNZB3,OOO per annum.
