Trading listless

Futures trading was described as listless yesterday and lacking direction. Mr David Halligan, of Buttle Wilson Futures, said the market was very quiet with volume low. He attributed the doldrums to “a dearth of news.”

The 33 Barclays share price index contracts traded was “nothing spectacular.”

The mandatory settlement for the Barclays contract for March was yesterday. Apathy also reigned on the bond contracts. A possible reason being suggested for the dull tone was that it was the end of the financial year, Mr Halligan said.

The dollar contract was not traded yesterday. The kiwi dollar was very steady on the currency market.
