Aggressive drivers

Sir,—The headline “Christchurch roads hit by atrocious, driving” (March 28) could riot have been truer.; Over Easter we ■ went to Akaroa one day and, < coming back at night, it was astounding to see some of, the aggressive, impatient driving, especially the overtaking just before blind comers ahead on the narrow restricted road to,, the Hilltop. Any approaching vehicles would have, been involved in a certain head-on collision. One of the favourite aggressive tactics j iriqst people are familiar with is of cars tailgating so close they almost force the car ahead off the road. There appears now to be nighttime variations of this dangerous and unnecessary game and that is cars following close behind using full headlights continuously to intimidate the driver ahead. The real problem is that the Ministry of Transport must convince drivers it is not smart or trendy to express their often not too attractive, aggressive personalities in their driving. A neutral personality is best for safe driving.—Yours, etc.,

W. J. C. ROYDS. March 28, 1989.
