NZPA Hong Kong Tokyo hospital authorities are looking for a pair of crutches big enough to support the frame of New Zealand’s 6’ 3” (1.905 m Ambassador to Japan, Mr Rod Gates. Mr Gates broke his hip while ski-ing at the Kuramayama ski-field outside Tokyo on Sunday. Since then, according to his wife, Pat, he’s found being on the large side in a Japanese hospital can ; have minor drawbacks. So far hospital authorities had not been able to find a pair of crutches big enough for him. However, Mr Gates had been able to stand with the aid of a metal frame. Mrs Gates said she expects her husband to be in hospital for 10 days and on crutches for three months.
