Bible College head appointed

A strong bicultural commitment is part of the vision of the newly appointed national principal of the Bible College of New Zealand, Dr John Hitchen, of Christchurch. He succeeds Dr David Stewart who was principal for 24 years before retiring in December. Dr Hitchen who is principal of the college’s Christchurch branch, will take up his national position in January, 1990. The interim principal is the Rev. lan Kemp. Dr Hitchen has had 15 years of cross-cultural experience in Papua New Guinea at the Christian Leaders’ Training College. He has been commended by Maori and pakeha
Christian leaders who believe his cross-cultural experience will be invaluable in his new job. The Bible College of New Zealand is an interdenominational college with a residential campus for 250 students at. Henderson. Branches offer part-time non-residential studies in Palmerston North, Nelson,. Christchurch and Dunedin for more than 250 students. It has an extension department offering correspondence and extra-mural studies to about 500 people. The college began with nine students in 1922 and the Henderson campus had in excess of 3500 graduates up to the end of 1988.
