North Shore ■ WrTirTnHS City ■ ■ The proposals of the Local Government Commission will lead to the formation of a new North Shore City with a population of about 150,000. The City will encompass Devonport, Takapuna, East Coast Bays, Birkenhead and Northcote as well as taking over the functions of the North Shore Drainage Board. The General Manager will be responsible for formulating goals, objectives and strategies for the new Council which will be elected in October 1989. The task will include developing and implementing an organisation structure, appointing a management team, and integrating the existing local authorities into one streamlined and efficient operating unit. This is a vital leadership role requiring an experienced senior executive capable of introducing and managing change. Experience in local government is preferable, but most importantly we seek strongly developed management skills, political and cultural awareness, an innovative approach and the ability to develop an effective management team. This is a challenging position offering the successful applicant an opportunity to play a significant role in the development of local government on the North Shore which offers one of NZ’s most attractive living and working environments.
