Illi CHIEF EXECUTIVE GENERAL MANAGER WELLINGTON AREA HEALTH BOARD A new Wellington Area Health Board is being formed. This very important appointment is an exciting opportunity for a professional general manager to respond to the challenge of developing and improving an organisation vital to the community. The prime focus will be to provide a health service that is efficient, accountable, and responsive and accessible to the communities of Wellington, Hutt and Gold Coast Districts. The Board is one of the largest in New Zealand, with staff exceeding 6000, revenues of approximately $250 million and servicing the health needs of more than 340,000 people. We are seeking a well rounded executive with proven competence as a senior line manager in a large multidisciplinary company or organisation. The successful candidate will need the commercial skills to ensure the most efficient use of funds. This will be balanced by the ability to respond to the needs and reasonable expectations of the community in providing cost efficient health care. This is one of the top level CEO positions in New Zealand in terms of responsibilities and accountabilities. The location is in Wellington City. REQUIREMENTS: • An ability to provide strong leadership and inspiration to a broad group of managers, support staff and specialists working within a clearly communicated mission statement, strategic business plan and operating budgets. • A high level of business acumen and judgement but balanced by a social awareness and sensitivity to bicultural issues. • Entrepreneurial ability and skills to take hard decisions based on the sound analysis of facts. • Well developed interpersonal skills and the personal presence to take a high profile public relations role. • Capacity to negotiate political issues and make decisions under pressure. • A strong empathy with the health care sector but previous experience in this area is not a pre-requisite.
