New life planned for W. Coast ‘Times’

NZPA Greymouth Hokitika’s defunct “West Coast Times” newspaper is to recommence publication in early March. The former West Coast premises in Tancred Street have been secured and staff are now being hired to produce a five days a week tabloid to replace the regional newspaper which closed on November 18. The revived newspaper will use the same name and aim at distribution in

the Hokitika and South Westland areas. A company has been formed by Mr Tony Smith, of Minidata Computer Systems, Hokitika, and Mr Mark Threadwell, the former advertising manager for the old “Times.” They share a 100 per cent holding in Monalto Investments, Ltd, which will run the venture. A staff, of eight will be used to produce the paper to “paste-up” stage, with printing contracted out to a Westport firm.
