Svet fights to top
NZPA-Reuter Vail, Colorado Mateja Svet, of Yugoslavia, has always been a fighter, and yesterday she won a personal battle by claiming the slalom, world championship to emerge from the shadow of Vreni Schneider in a time of Imin 30.885. The New Zealand ski-racer, Juliet Johnston, of Christchurch, finished in a meritorious twenty-first place in the field with a combined time of Imin 40.425, less than 10 seconds behind Svet, who trained at Mount Hutt last winter. Three other New Zealand skiers, Annelise and Adele Coberger, of Canterbury, and Janey Blair, of Queenstown, did not finish the first run.
