Water restrictions

Sir,—Readers who live in the Avonhead area, where we have been told not to use our sprinklers, may be interested in the method we use to water most of our garden. On consulting our automatic washing machine manual, we discovered that we used 44 gallons of water per cycle. It is a large amount of water to waste, so we felt the need to use it on the plant life instead. Operating a two-bucket line from the machine pump to the flowers and shrubs, suds and all, we found the soapy water has killed the aphids, especially on the roses. Our garden is recovering with this recycled water and we are quite happy with the results. The only handheld watering is done on the vegetable garden.—Yours, etc., (Mrs) JUNE MARSHALL.
