Farming
Sir,—John McCaskey has an interesting point in his letter of January 20. On his figures our 3500 lambs this year will subsidise the New Zealand economy
by $61,040. And that from only one farm! Just think what could be done with that if we had it to spend on our farms. We could employ an unemployed person, lime and super the whole farm, plant trees for stock shelter and to add oxygen to our depleted atmosphere, prune and thin trees already planted, catch up on long overdue maintenance — and this all in one year! These all involve spending in the community with its downline benefits to all. Multiply this by other farms and this country would blossom overnight. So dreams are free; after all, nothing else is these days — Yours, etc., R. DEANS. January 20,1989.
