Straight Line out for season
Straight Line, the Riccarton filly which produced such an outstanding run in the Magic Million Sires’ Stakes on Saturday will not race again this season.
The filly’s owner, Don Cameron, and cotrainer, Dave Kerr, agreed on this course of action on Sunday after considering various options. These included the South Island Two-Year-Old Championship Final, sponsored by Pyne, Gould, Guinness and run at Riccarton on April 1, the Manawatu Sires’ Stakes sponsored by Swettenham Stud and the Matamata Breeders’ Stakes on February 18, the next assignment for Phillipa Rush. Matamata officials were keen for Straight Line to travel north but her connections feel she has done enough for this season.
“I like racing two-year-olds but I don’t like to see them having too many starts. She has had six and that is about right,” Mr Cameron said.
