N.S.W. loses to Canty
New South Wales Combined High Schools lost to the Canterbury Under 20 XI in their women’s cricket match at Malvern Park yesterday. Canterbury declared its second innings at 125 for five, leaving the Australians a target of 216. Lisa Keightley made a brisk 43 at the top of the New South Wales order and Miranda Payne and Karen
Hitchcock added 46 for the fifth wicket. New South Wales was not prepared to play for a draw and it continued to chase runs, but lost the last four wickets for only one run. Sharp catching allowed Sara McLauchlan five wickets for Canterbury. Canterbury’s second innings again revolved around the commanding form of Maia Lewis and she was unbeaten on 56 when the
declaration was made. Scores.— Canterbury under 20 224 and 125/5 (A. Walker 20, M. Lewis 56 n. 0.; C. Potter 2/34) beat New South Wales Combined High Schools 132 (K. Bland 32, L. Keightley 43; M. Ormandy 6/15) and 124 (Keightley 43, M. Payne 21; S. McLauchlan 5/38, Ormandy 2/26).
