Community care
Sir, —To counteract the feeling of sadness because of turmoil in New Zealand and overseas, I think Christchurch and its surrounds have much to be thankful for. There is help for the lonely, those under stress or needing help physically, mentally or spiritually. I am sure many will join me in thanking the Nurse Maude District Nursing Association, the Red Cross, Aged People’s Welfare Council, City Missions and other church groups, homes for the elderly, doctors, nurses and all other staff in hospitals, women’s refuges and resource centres, etc. It is also encouraging to note the large number of voluntary helpers who can be called on and an increasing number of young people who are studying for careers in child or geriatric care or work with the terminally ill. — Yours, etc., W. RITCHIE. December 19, 1988.
