Sand dune fire

The Christchurch Fire Service was called to a scrub fire at Beach Road, North Beach, about midnight last night. The fire was reported to be increasing just after midnight and was attended by eight appliances and two command units.

At 12.30 a.m. the Fire Service said the fire was well alight in the sand dunes but no more fire appliances had been reouested. Two houses on Beach Road on the seaward end, near the intersection with Bond Street, were evacuated during the fire.
