Breeding plans for Debbie’s Chance

BY

JEFF SCOTT

Debbie's Chance, a 1:58 three-year-old filly miler of last season, is to be bred with the champion sire Vance Hanover.

"She didn’t go that good at the New Zealand Cup meeting and with a sire like him (Vance Hanover) standing down here for only one more year, we thought we’d make use of the opportunity this year,” said her Rangiora partowner and trainer, Stan Moore. This doesn’t mean racegoers have seen the last of Debbie’s Chance, however.

“She won’t race for 12 months but we’ll see how she is next season before deciding on her future,” said Mr Moore. "We might continue racing her next year as a five-year-old.”

The Jersey Hanover— Hautere mare has only raced 27 times for six wins and seven placings for earnings of $40,173 for Mr Moore, who owns the mare in partnership with his wife, Beverley. Stylish George, a halfbrother to the dam of Debbie’s Chance, quit maidens with an all-the-way win in the opening event at Rangiora last Saturday. The six-year-old Yankee Reb gelding is raced and trained by Bruce Odgers, on lease from Mr Moore’s brother, Peter Moore.
