Aiming High makes grade
Aiming High quit maiden ranks for the Rangiora trainer, Leicester Tatterson, when she won the penalty-bearing CO pace on the grass track at the Rangiora trials on Sunday. The penalty race was the only event on grass, the rest being conducted on the all-weather track.
Aiming High, a three-year-old filly by Alberton from Tonie Gallant, scored by a nose from Shortly in a blanket finish. The result:

Others in finishing order: So Sure, Promoter, Top Rate, Swift Andy, Nia Dhu, Plough Time, Nature’s Best, Double Logan, Innocent View, Explorer, Friendly Fred, Hi Ho Silver, Bo Rhonda. Nose, y 2 hd, hd. Time: 3:35.1. (800 m in 62, 400 m in 31).
Barrier trial winners over 2600 m were: Classic Cuisine (CO mobile, 3:23), Shesa Monti (Cl mobile, 3:26.9), Chic Lady (CO, 3:32.9), Goldtross (CO, 3:31.1.), Tall Chief (CO, 3:26.5), Morris Dancer (CO, 3:35.1), Game Tempo (CO trot, 3:43.9), Grobbelaar (Cl, 3:32.5), Pitcher (Cl and faster trot, 3:37.2) and Lord Venture (C2 and 3 pace, 3:30.4).
Motu Hard and Fast (Dominion Hanover-Motu Delight gelding) was successful over Zippy Jiffy and Gypsy Maid in the Two-Year-Old pace over 2000 m recording 2:43.7.
Million Eyre and Cairnmuir were the quickest 2400 m pacing qualifiers, returning 3:13.9 in separate heats.
