Awards for Lyle
NZPA-AAP London The Scottish golfer, Sandy Lyle, has picked up two British sports awards for his win in the United States Masters at Augusta. He received the Sports Writers Association’s Sportsman of the Year award from Princess Anne at a gala banquet at the Wembley Conference Centre.
Earlier in the day he picked up the British Association of Golf Writers’ award — again for becoming the first Briton to win the United States Masters. Liz McColgan, the 10,000 m silver medallist in Seoul, was voted top sportswoman and British men’s hockey team claimed the best team of the year prize for its Olympic gold.
