Rowing pennant finals

Avon and Union are expected to have a very close fight for the Kerrs Reach rowing pennant when the three-regatta series winds up at the week-end. The sixth and final day of racing in the series tomorrow will be the first time positive pennant points have been awarded, the other' days all being used to seed crews. Clubs, however, have been in line for demerit points throughout the series. Last season Union took the pennant, ending a 15year stranglehold by the Avon club. Racing today and tomorrow will be enlivened by the presence of 11 Wairau crews and three from Blenheim, though they will not be eligible for points. Altogether the regatta has attracted 148 crews and there is the prospect, too, of late entries in small boats from North End (Dunedin) and Awarua.
