Rain warning

The Westland Catchment Board yesterday advised farmers in North Westland and Buller to move stock to higher ground after a warning of heavy rain until midnight tonight (Monday). A board spokesman said last evening that it was “a very preliminary warning.” The Meteorological Office had advised the board that up to 150 mm of rain could be expected in the high country and up to 80mm nearer the coast. Originally it had been predicted that the rain would fall from midday yesterday to midnight tonight, but this had been updated to predict the fall from early this morning. Light rain fell in Greymouth on Saturday evening after a week of warm, fine weather, and there were light outbreaks of drizzle in a rather humid atmosphere yesterday.
